About this piece

A graded collection of easy pieces in contrasting styles from the celebrated string teacher Sheila Nelson, designed to follow on from her Right from the Start method. Traditional melodies ('Loch Lomond', 'Mango Walk'), tunes from the classical repertoire (Beethoven, Handel, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Byrd) and Nelson's own characterful originals ('Snake in the Grass', 'Dance of the Minor Thirds', 'Henry's Hornpipe') are arranged for young cellists. Published both as a cello book (with duet material) and as a cello-and-piano edition; parallel volumes exist for violin and viola.

Technical overview

Easy first-position repertoire; titles such as 'Chromatic Waltz', 'Dance of the Minor Thirds' and 'Three-Key Rollalong' suggest extensions and simple key changes, but the sources give no explicit technical description.
