About this piece
find (2019, revised 2021) is about 'the illusion of repetition—remembering, altering, trying to hold on.' The live instrument is captured and transformed into spectral freezes while a fixed audio part, featuring Adam Morford's Morf-enhanced electric guitar, runs underneath; the performer triggers events with a foot pedal and a clock in the patch keeps the sections aligned. The original viola version was commissioned by Kieran Welch (first performance at DOTS+LOOPS, Brisbane, 15 October 2021); the piece also exists for cello and live electronics and for double bass and fixed media. Technical overview
Requires a MaxMSP (Max8) patch with Spat5 on a laptop, a clip-on microphone (DPA 4061 or similar), MIDI foot pedal, audio interface, speakers and stage monitor; the player advances cues with the pedal while live sound is spectrally frozen.
