About this piece
Sleeper's Cello Concerto (2008) was written for cellist Jillian Bloom, who premiered it at Carnegie Hall on 23 March 2008 with the Florida Youth Orchestra, the ensemble Sleeper directed for many years. It was later recorded by Jennifer Culp with the Brno Philharmonic for Albany Records' Four Concerti disc. The orchestra has double winds, four horns, three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, three percussion, harp and strings. Sleeper, a Cherokee composer born in Wagoner, Oklahoma, wrote fifteen concerti in a tonal, melodic language. Scores are supplied by his imprint, Uroboros Music, on request by email.
