About this piece
A five-minute solo-cello work commissioned by the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition, with Canada Council support, as the set piece for the 44th E-Gré strings competition in 2021 (revised 2022). Cusson describes it as a musical reflection on Kent Monkman's 2018 painting La Pieta. All six 2021 finalists performed it; the winner, Julien Siino, later toured it, and Métis cellist David Liam Roberts programmed it at the 2025 International Cello Festival of Canada.
