About this piece
Five miniatures for cello and piano, each titled after a fragment of a Shakespeare sonnet: 'with shifting change', 'to be so tickled', 'my tongue-tied muse', 'so far from variation' and 'confounded to decay'. Norman writes that 'each of my five little songs takes as its title and point of inspiration a fragment from a Shakespeare sonnet', using 'sonnet' in its older sense of 'little song'. The set was written for John Gidwitz's family for his 70th birthday. Schott publishes the score and part (ED 31326); a viola version edited by Anne Lanzilotti also exists.
