About this piece
Composed in the summer of 1967 and published in 1969, the Second Suite is the most classically laid out of the three: a declamatory opening, a fugue, a fast scherzo, a slow movement and a closing Ciaccona that takes the Bach model of Britten's dedicatee head-on. Dedicated to Rostropovich, who gave the premiere and recorded it. Faber sells it in the collected Three Suites volume (print or PDF).
