About this piece
Two short pieces on Irish airs, published in Paris in 1911 by Heugel (Au Ménestrel) with a dedication to the cellist Georges Pitsch, and based on the first and third of Hahn's 1894 Preludes for piano four hands. The first, 'The Little Red Lark' (Allegretto moderato, G major), and the second, 'The Willow Tree', treat their folk melodies as gentle improvisations. Championed by Steven Isserlis, who wrote the preface to the first modern edition (Alphonse Leduc, 2017, together with the Variations chantantes). The 1911 edition is public domain and scanned on IMSLP, with a new typeset score and part.
