About this piece
Written for Dawn Avery's North American Indian Cello Project, which began in 2006 with a First Nations Composers Initiative grant to commission new works by Native American composers; Avery's own list gives it as 'Suite No. 1 for Solo Cello'. Avery, a Grammy-nominated Mohawk cellist, has toured it with the project's other commissions, including Brent Michael Davids's Cello Chili and Raven Chacon's Táágo Dez'á (both in this database), and recorded it live at Montgomery College. Becenti is a Diné composer from the Four Corners area of New Mexico who received his first commission from the Moab Music Festival in 1998.
