About this piece
One of Dawn Avery's own contributions to her North American Indian Cello Project, the series of works by Native American composers that she has commissioned and toured since 2006. She recorded it live at Montgomery College, where she teaches, alongside commissions by Juantio Becenti, Brent Michael Davids and Raven Chacon. Avery, a Grammy-nominated cellist and composer of Mohawk heritage, has written about the project and the wider 'Native Classical' movement in her doctoral dissertation and in the journal MusiCultures.
