About this piece
A virtuosic solo, commissioned by cellist Cameron Crozman for a project pairing new pieces with Domenico Gabrielli's Ricercari; it is the composer's first solo string work. It opens by exploring the pitch A through half-step glissandi, pizzicato, wide vibrato and natural and artificial harmonics, then moves through a fast section to a slow, lyrical one. Some passages are unbarred, leaving the cellist room to shape them freely.
