About this piece
Oog (Dutch for "eye") is a work of about ten minutes for cello and soundtrack by Michel van der Aa, composed in 1995 and dedicated to the cellist Justa de Jong, who gave the first performance at De IJsbreker in Amsterdam on 18 January 1996. The electronic sounds are drawn from the cello itself, apart from the sound of clashing stones, and the soundtrack creeps in almost unnoticed before gradually taking over. At the end the cellist mimes bowing while the final tone comes from the loudspeakers alone.
