Monologue (2011) is a solo for a cellist who also speaks, sings and acts, written by Patrick van Deurzen for the American cellist Hannah Collins, who premiered it. Across five movements (Prologue, Frases, Monologue, Toccata (words) and Epilogue), the cellist tells the audience about a dramatic event and wrestles with whether it was an accident, inattention or negligence. Van Deurzen wrote both the music and the text; the linked video is Collins's performance.
