Symphony No. 4 "The Bell" (2023, revised 2024) is a 23-minute work for cello and orchestra by the Ukrainian composer Victoria Vita Polevá, written during the war in Ukraine for the cellist Inbal Segev. Polevá links the title to the Latin bellum (war), to bells announcing war, mourning and victory, and to Segev's name, which means "tongue of the bell". Above all, she wanted to capture what happens after the most powerful bell chime: the faint echo she associates with the Hebrew bat kol, "daughter of the voice". Segev is the soloist in the linked recording.
