About this piece
Julius Röntgen's Cello Concerto No. 1 in E minor (1893–94) is a large three-movement work (Allegro affettuoso, Un poco andante, Allegro non troppo, ma passionato) dedicated to the cellist Henri Bosmans, principal cellist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra and father of the composer Henriëtte Bosmans. Röntgen, a German-born composer and pianist, spent most of his career in Amsterdam and directed its conservatory from 1912 to 1924. The linked recording is by Arturo Muruzabel with the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra under Paul Watkins.
