About this piece

Dam mwen yo is a six-minute piece for solo cello with a fixed electronic track built from processed field recordings and recorded voices (the voices are Joachim's own). It was commissioned in 2016 by cellist Amanda Gookin as one of the first works in her Forward Music Project. The Haitian Creole title, which Joachim translates as "these are my ladies" in her program note, honours the women of her family and of Dantan, Haiti-Sud, where her family comes from. Joachim has described the piece as the seed of her later project Fanm d'Ayiti; a playback track is required for performance.
