About this piece
Journeys is a two-movement trio for three cellos, commissioned by cellist Zon Eastes and the Brattleboro Music Center. 'Dancing til Dawn' is a playful movement in which overlapping patterns merge into jagged rhythmic unison and pull apart again. 'Light Rising' starts from a repeated sixteenth-note figure in the lowest part that is passed upward through the trio, and returns at the end in the high register.
Technical overview
All three parts move between bass, tenor and treble clefs and use pizzicato (including left-hand pizzicato), free oscillations, random glissandi and tremolo.
