About this piece
Augusta Read Thomas's first cello concerto, a single 11-minute work for cello and orchestra (double winds, two horns, two trumpets, harp, piano, two percussion and strings). It was written for cellist Norman Fischer, who premiered it with the Cleveland Chamber Symphony at the College of Wooster, Ohio, on 4 November 1990. The composer's site notes that a version with piano reduction also exists.
