About this piece
A short, slow reflective piece that began as Thomas's 2008 setting of an e. e. cummings poem for girls' chorus and was transcribed in 2010 for string orchestra without basses; the composer likens its slow, sustained string writing to Barber's Adagio for Strings. The version for cello ensemble (at least 12 cellos) was premiered on 21 October 2011 by the Cello Ensemble of Roosevelt University, conducted by Julian Hersh.
