About this piece

Dreaming Chaconne is a short unaccompanied variation on the Chiacona per basso solo by the 17th-century composer Giuseppe Colombi. Saariaho wrote it in 2010 as one of 31 variations by different composers marking cellist Anssi Karttunen's 50th birthday; the complete set is published by Chester as Mystery Variations. In a note on the publisher's page the composer asks that it be played immediately after Colombi's Chiacona.

Technical overview

A short contemporary solo variation built on Colombi's Chiacona, best programmed directly after the original.
