Mirage: The Dancing Sun (Mirage: Die tanzende Sonne) is a 12-minute piece for eight cellos, commissioned by the cello ensemble festival in Beauvais, France, where it was premiered on 10 May 2002. In her note the composer says she used the cellos' natural harmonics to depict a sun disc spinning rapidly around a still centre and throwing off 'flaming arrows', an image that arrives in the last third of the piece, with everything before it serving as preparation.
