About this piece
Ravvedimento is a 25-minute work for cello and guitar quartet, written in 2007 at the request of the cellist Ivan Monighetti, to whom it is dedicated; Monighetti premiered it with the guitar ensemble quasi fantasia in Tranekær, Denmark, on 26 May 2007. The publisher's note explains the title (roughly 'remorse') as a reference to how long the busy composer had to postpone the piece before finishing it, and mentions that the four guitars are tuned differently, producing unusual blends of sound. Gubaidulina later adapted it as Pentimento (double bass and three guitars) and Repentance (cello, three guitars and double bass, 2008).
