About this piece
An unaccompanied cello piece of about ten minutes, commissioned by the Huntingdon Music Society. Steven Isserlis gave the first performance at Huntingdon Town Hall on 13 February 1985. The publisher's programme note calls it "a tale unfolded by the cello". It moves through contrasting episodes, including pizzicato, a Poco lento in 9/8, rapid repeated notes and incisive chords, and returns at the end to the open A it starts from.
