About this piece

A set of six variations for unaccompanied cello, written in 1971. The American Composers Alliance distributes it as a print score or PDF, and the composer's historic materials for it are held at the University of Maryland's Special Collections in Performing Arts. The first variation is marked 'Sustained' and 'Dolce', with constantly shifting dynamics. The second alternates pizzicato and arco and asks for flautando, sul tasto, non vibrato and gradually increasing vibrato.
