About this piece
Listen, Quiet is a 15-minute work for cello, percussion and electronics commissioned by the Juilliard School. In two halves, it sets the players against an electronic track built from recorded private conversations: in the composer's description the cellist acts as narrator and the percussionist as the driving force, while the second half, Quiet, is a hymn recalling childhood, written from a mother's perspective. Prestini has also connected the piece to water and to a panel of Bill Viola's video work Going Forth By Day. Jeffrey Zeigler recorded it with Jason Treuting of So Percussion on his album Something of Life (Innova, 2014).
