About this piece
A single-movement concert polonaise (Polacca, Allegretto, in 3/4) for piano and cello, published by Tobias Haslinger in Vienna around 1826, while Blahetka was a touring teenage virtuoso, and dedicated to Madame Fodor-Mainvielle. As 'concertante' and the piano-first title suggest, the piano part is the larger and more brilliant of the two (about 17 engraved pages against a five-page cello part). The cello alternates sustained supporting lines with showy passagework in rapid sixteenths and thirty-seconds, chromatic runs and trills, and it moves freely between bass, tenor and treble clefs.
