The second of Kashperova's two Op. 1 cello sonatas, in four movements (Allegro appassionato, Andante, Scherzo: Presto, Allegro maestoso) lasting about 35 minutes. Like its G-major companion, it is dedicated to the Mariinsky Orchestra's principal cellist, Aleksandr Verzhbilovich. Editor Graham Griffiths points to the brilliant piano writing in the Presto scherzo and the finale as a sign of Kashperova's own pianism; she was regarded as the most gifted student in Anton Rubinstein's piano class. A third sonata she wrote for Verzhbilovich, which the two performed in 1908, is lost.
