About this piece
A single-movement concert piece of about 11 minutes for cello and piano, written in 1927. Navona Records' notes for Juliana Soltis's recording describe it moving from a melancholy solo-cello opening through Impressionist piano harmonies to a finale full of Jazz Age syncopation. The Howe scholar Dorothy Indenbaum, who came across the piece in 1984 in the New York Public Library's American Music Collection, singles out its 'jazzy rhythms and the virtuosity of the writing.' It is published by Hildegard Publishing and has been recorded by Meredith Blecha-Wells (Navona, 2022) and Juliana Soltis (Navona, 2024).
