About this piece
A nine-minute adagio for cello and piano, published on its own and also the third movement of Frank's double concerto Compadrazgo, where it is played by the two soloists alone as an extended cadenza. It pays homage to Amantaní, an island in Lake Titicaca that Frank visited in 2006. In her note she describes the island as both beautiful and barren and says its people survive through compadrazgo, the Latin American bond between godparent and godchild or between neighbours. The cello line moves between a hushed, senza vibrato opening and passionate climaxes high on the instrument.
