About this piece
Three pieces for cello and piano commissioned by the Three Choirs Festival and first performed by Jamie Walton and Daniel Grimwood at Huntingdon Hall, Worcester, on 7 August 2011. Two song-like movements for the cello, a nod to the festival's choral tradition, frame a central Minuet and Trio; the composer wrote it with Walton's lyrical playing and the duo's close ensemble in mind. The third piece expands an earlier short cello work. Recorded by David Cohen and Daniel Grimwood on The Whole Earth Dances (Champs Hill, 2020); Frances-Hoad later arranged it for violin and piano as Sonatina.
