About this piece

A two-minute piece for unaccompanied cello, written in 2001 for ABRSM's Spectrum for Cello, a collection of short new pieces by UK composers for young and amateur players. The composer had lines from an Emily Dickinson poem about crickets singing at dusk in mind while writing it. It is on the ABRSM cello Grade 7 list and is published separately by Edition Peters (EP 71221) as well as in the Spectrum collection.

Left Hand

  • Detailed phrasing & structure; shape long phrases with rubato.
  • Combine expressive dynamics, vibrato & precise bowing techniques.
  • Further refine ensemble sensitivity & leadership.
