About this piece
A short, slow elegy for two cellos (Largo) that Albert wrote in memory of a close friend who died suddenly. The cellists Ruslan Biryukov and Maksim Velichkin premiered it in August 2010 on the Steinway Concerts in the Canyon series. Cello 1 plays a sustained, singing melody high in treble clef, while Cello 2 supports it with an accompaniment that leaps across registers. Albert later made versions for violin and cello and for viola and bassoon.
