About this piece
A four-movement, late-Romantic sonata in E-flat major for cello and piano, about 18 minutes long, written around 1935. Senfter studied with Max Reger, and his influence shows in the contrapuntal writing and rich chromatic harmony. The work went unpublished and was largely forgotten until its first CD recording in 1993. Schott's Cello Library edition, edited by Günter Matthes, is based on the composer's autograph in the library of the Cologne Hochschule für Musik, and the publisher calls it "a rewarding concert piece for advanced cellists."
