About this piece
The first of Nakamura's six suites for unaccompanied cello, dedicated to Wolfgang Boettcher, the former Berlin Philharmonic principal cellist who gave the complete premiere in Mannheim on 13 April 2008. Its six movements take spring in rural Japan as their theme, moving from a festive song of the snow country and a prayer to the mountain gods to a rice-planting song and a breeze over green paddy fields. Boettcher often played it in recitals alongside Bach's suites, and his recording lasts about 19 minutes.
