About this piece

A set of ten short character pieces for two cellos, composed in 2007 and published by Ries & Erler in 2011 as a playing score; the book is dedicated to Wolfgang Boettcher and his grandson Anton. The pieces carry playful titles such as 'Choco Chip Cookie', 'Zwei Grillen' (Two Crickets) and 'Spanish Festival', and the opening waltz prints a short story line above the music. A publisher's note for the composer describes the set as duos for two young cellists, and three of the pieces were played by students of Boettcher's class at the Berlin University of the Arts in 2011.

Technical overview

In the opening waltz the second cello stays mostly in first position with short slurs, staccato and tenuto, plus a few sustained two-voice passages (an easier ossia is printed); the first cello's melody is written in treble clef up to g' with chromatic slurred runs.
