About this piece
The last of Nakamura's six unaccompanied cello suites, written in Okinawa in 2011 and dedicated to Wolfgang Boettcher, who premiered it in Glambeck, Germany, on 20 April 2013. It draws on the Okinawan scale, with a love song for Nirai Kanai (the Okinawan paradise across the sea) and a fishermen's song celebrating a big catch among its six movements; the composer describes it as a celebration of the joy of music that closes her seasonal cycle. Boettcher's recording runs about 25 minutes.
