About this piece
The composer's own cello-and-harp arrangement of the second movement of her double concerto for cello, harp and orchestra, En el escuro es todo uno. Cellist Stéphane Tétreault and harpist Valérie Milot commissioned the arrangement, gave its first performance and recorded it on their album Transfiguration (ATMA Classique). The music is based on a Ladino children's song from Turkey and the Balkans that teaches children to enjoy their chores. A meditative opening built on prayer modes gives way to a driving, dance-like setting of the tune, and the harpist also plays ankle bells and a rain stick. Murphy calls it "highly virtuosic" in her programme note.
