About this piece
A four-movement suite of Catalan dances for solo cello, written for the Catalan cellist Roger Morelló Ros, who premiered it at the Palau Güell in Barcelona. The movements are Ball d'entrada (opening dance), Dansa de rondalla amorosa (dance of an amorous tale), Ball ceremonial de purificació (ceremonial dance of purification) and Records de sardana (memories of the sardana). The suite does not quote traditional tunes. Instead, Fábregas, who has lived outside Catalonia since 1978, draws on folk melody and rhythm she remembers from her childhood.
