About this piece
Homage to Sviatoslav Knushevitsky for unaccompanied cello was commissioned in 2012 by the First International Sviatoslav Knushevitsky Cello Competition in Saratov, Russia, as the required solo piece for the competition's second round. The composer studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Igor Gavrysh, a former Knushevitsky student, so the piece reflects her own line of teaching. Opening as a Maestoso recitative, it combines Russian folk-like melodies with deliberately demanding writing to test competitors. The score carries both Russian and English titles.
