About this piece
Suite "Carol" is a five-movement suite for unaccompanied cello written between 2018 and 2020 for the composer's friend and student Carol Haynes, who asked her for a solo piece. The first letters of the movement titles spell CAROL (the first is a Cavatina). Anisimova first planned a Russian-style work, but the dedicatee's British background came to shape the music, which includes a song, two dances, an "avalanche" and a calm meditation. She says each movement focuses on a particular aspect of cello technique. The composer premiered it in February 2020 at Arts on the Green in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
