About this piece
Yagling wrote her second cello concerto, for cello and full orchestra, in 1983–84 and dedicated it to her teacher Mstislav Rostropovich. It lasts about 22 minutes. In the solo part, the cellist's first entry in the opening movement is a cadenza marked Adagio, after a short orchestral introduction. She made the piano reduction herself and revised it in 2004, and she recorded the concerto as soloist with the USSR Radio and TV orchestra under Vladimir Fedoseyev.
