About this piece
A four-movement sonata for cello and piano from 2001, dedicated to the composer's father, Guy Mulsant, and first performed in Vannes in December 2001 by Véronique Bourlet (cello) and Fabrice Bourlet (piano). The whole work grows from a melody the cello plays alone at the opening and then varies throughout. A fast, scherzo-like second movement is followed by a Lamento built around a long cello cadenza, and the finale is a perpetual-motion movement on five-note rhythmic figures that ends with the opening theme as a coda.
