About this piece
A three-movement suite for cello and piano written in winter 2016 as a commission from the Concours National de violoncelle, aimed (in the composer's words) at young cellists "à l'aube de leur carrière", at the start of their careers. The first movement presents two melodies on the solo cello that the piano then takes up in dialogue; the second is a lively scherzo and trio that features pizzicato; the third recalls a theme from the first, gives the cello a cadenza, and ends energetically. It was first performed in Paris on 26 November 2016.
