About this piece
Firsova's second cello concerto, titled Chamber Concerto No. 2, is a single movement of about 12 minutes for cello and a chamber orchestra of single winds and brass, percussion (tubular bells, glockenspiel, vibraphone, cymbal, tam-tam), harp, celesta and a small string section. Ivan Monighetti gave the premiere at the Moscow Conservatoire on 17 October 1982 under Gennady Rozhdestvensky. The score was printed in Moscow in 1990 alongside a concerto by Vladimir Tarnopolsky and is also issued by Sikorski as a study score.
