About this piece
A ten-minute piece for cello and tape, commissioned by cellist Isang Enders as part of a series of cello-and-electronics works based on the ancient Korean elements; Bray chose water, and the Turkish title means 'to dive into water'. The tape combines sea sounds Bray recorded at Bogliasco, Italy, recorded cello, and the voices of people describing their memories of the sea (she collected accounts from 21 people in 14 languages). The piece moves from the water's surface to an underwater middle section of playful pizzicato and back up again. The cellist plays to a click track through earphones, and a wooden mute is used from bar 49; Enders gave the premiere in Wuppertal on 5 April 2014.
