Technical overview
From Association of Canadian Women Composers: "Freely, in declamatory style. To cantillate means to chant or intone a passage of religious text. The harmonic form of the scale is used throughout with expressive emphasis on the augmented 2nd. The rapid notes need to be played with flexibility for an improvisatory style. The cello part is written in the tenor clef. Double and triple stops, and one triple stop pizzicato, create drama. The piano accompaniment provides harmonic and textural support. 'Prelude,' 'Cantillation,' and 'Danse Energique' are often performed as a set."
