About this piece
Entanglement is a theatrical duo for cello and percussion, commissioned by the Land's End Chamber Music Society of Calgary and dedicated to percussionist Evelyn Glennie. It grew out of Woolf's wordless opera Mélange à trois, in which a percussionist plays on the body of a cello: here the percussionist at times plays on the same cello the cellist is bowing, so the staging and physical contact between players are part of the piece. Glennie and cellist Beth Root Sandvoss gave the premiere at the Bella Concert Hall, Mount Royal University, Calgary, in May 2017. The full score serves as the performance part.
