About this piece
The Revolt of the Stars is a five-and-a-half-minute piece for cello and pre-recorded audio playback, in which the cellist also performs a vocal part. It was commissioned by cellist Caitlin Sullivan, who recorded it on her debut album A Page From (New Amsterdam Records, 2019). The piece is based on an Armenian fable in which the stars band together to outshine the sun and moon, and in the composer's note the story questions whether strength in numbers succeeds without strength of spirit. A playback system is needed.
