About this piece
An eight-minute duo for cello and piano, written in 1999–2000 for cellist Roi Ruottinen and pianist Jerry Jantunen, who premiered it at the Musica nova Helsinki festival on 8 March 2000. The title is the old Finnish name for the midwinter months, roughly Christmas to late February; the composer says it refers both to the intimate mood of the music and to the season in which she wrote it. Ruottinen and Jantunen recorded it on the Uusinta ensemble's album At the Edge of Time (2004).
