About this piece
A ten-minute piece for cello and chamber orchestra commissioned by the Turku Cello Competition as the required work for its 2018 finalists, who each premiered it with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra under Klaus Mäkelä in February 2018. The composer's note says the image came from the silent movement of leaves seen from her basement studio window, sometimes whole branches swaying together and sometimes single leaves moving in different rhythms. The solo part explores both high and low registers, fragile flute-like tones and fuller singing lines, and playful as well as lyrical gestures. A version with piano is published.
