About this piece
A 20-minute concerto for cello and orchestra commissioned by the Arsenal de Metz and premiered there on 26 March 1998 by Sonia Wieder-Atherton with the Philharmonie de Lorraine under Pascal Rophé, who also recorded it for Timpani. In her program note the composer explains that it completed a cycle of string works after her violin concerto Exultet and Siloël, and that the cello acts as an instrument of passage between worlds, often treated in an incantatory way; the title is the Greek word for destiny. The work received a special distinction at the 1999 Prince Pierre of Monaco composition prize.
